Your Moving Questions — Answered

Everything you’ve wondered about hiring professional movers, from costs to timing to special items.
What is the best time of year to schedule a move?

Late spring through early fall is our busiest season. If you can move between October and March, you’ll likely find better availability and lower rates. That said, we stay busy year-round and always recommend booking at least 2-3 weeks in advance.

How much notice do you need for a local move in Pittsburgh?

We recommend booking at least 10–14 days ahead, especially for weekend moves. But if you have an urgent situation, call us directly — we typically have last-minute availability for smaller jobs or weekday slots.

Do I have to empty my dresser drawers before the move?

It depends. Light items like clothes, linens, and pillows can stay inside. But we ask that you remove heavy or breakable items like electronics, glassware, books, or tools to keep the furniture balanced and prevent damage.

Can you move my plants?

We can transport potted plants for local moves, but we don’t guarantee their condition due to temperature changes and movement. For long-distance moves, most interstate regulations restrict us from carrying live plants — you’re better off transporting them yourself or giving them to a friend.

What happens to my TV or mounted artwork?

We’ll carefully remove wall-mounted TVs, mirrors, and art, wrap them in padded blankets or specialty TV boxes, and secure them upright in the truck. Just let us know ahead of time what’s mounted so we bring the right packing materials.

Do you charge extra for stairs or elevators?

No. Unlike some movers, we never add hidden fees for walk-ups, elevators, or long carry distances. Your quoted hourly rate covers everything — no surprises at the end.

What if my new place isn't ready on moving day?

We offer temporary storage solutions. Your belongings can stay in our secure, climate-controlled warehouse until your new home is ready, and we’ll schedule delivery whenever you need it. There is a daily fee, but it’s very reasonable.

Can you handle a move that starts in Pittsburgh and goes to another state?

Absolutely. We specialize in both local and long-distance relocations. For interstate moves, we charge by weight and distance rather than hourly, and we provide a binding not-to-exceed estimate so you never pay more than the quote.

How do you protect my floors and walls during the move?

We lay down heavy-duty floor runners on hardwood, tile, and carpet. We also use corner guards on door frames and padding on stair railings. Our crews are trained to walk carefully and never drag furniture.

Do I need to be present during the whole move?

You don’t have to stand over our shoulders, but someone over 18 should be available at both pickup and delivery to sign paperwork, answer questions, and do a final walkthrough. Many customers run errands or wait at the new home while we load.

What's the difference between basic liability and full-value protection?

Basic liability is included for free but only pays a tiny amount per pound (around $0.60 per pound). Full-value protection costs extra but covers repair or replacement of anything we damage. For valuable items, the upgrade is worth it.

Can you move my firearm or ammunition?

We cannot transport firearms, ammunition, or any hazardous materials. You must move those yourself following all federal, state, and local laws. If you have a gun safe, we’ll move the empty safe — you handle the contents.

How do you handle moves during bad weather in Pittsburgh?

We monitor forecasts closely. For rain or snow, we bring tarps, shrink wrap, and floor protection. If conditions become dangerous (ice storms, lightning, extreme heat warnings), we may reschedule for safety. There’s never a penalty for weather-related changes.

Do you offer discounts for seniors, students, or military?

Yes. We provide 10% off for students with a valid .edu email, 15% off for seniors 65+, and 15% off for active military and veterans. Just mention your status when you book and provide documentation on moving day.

What size truck will you send for my 2-bedroom apartment?

A 16–20 ft box truck is usually enough for a 2-bedroom apartment. For a 3-4 bedroom house, we send a 24–26 ft truck. If you have a piano, pool table, or large workshop equipment, we might add a second truck or make two trips.

Can I add extra stops on moving day, like a storage unit or donation center?

Yes, as long as you tell us before we start loading. Additional stops add time to your move, so they’ll increase the total cost, but we’re happy to accommodate. We can also do a split load — some items to storage, some to your new home.

What happens if my elevator is broken or my building changes the rules?

We’ll adapt. If the elevator is out, our crew will use the stairs — though that may add time and cost. If your building has strict loading dock hours or insurance requirements, please share those with us at least 48 hours before the move so we’re prepared.

How far in advance will you confirm my arrival window?

We call or text you the evening before your move with a 2-hour arrival window. On moving day, your crew leader will call again when they’re 30 minutes away. We track our trucks with GPS so you always know where we are.
